Our kids will learn many things as they grow older, but there are some essential life lessons that your child should probably learn a lot sooner.

Ring emergency services
As much as we like to think that these emergencies will never occur, it is always a good idea to be prepared for any scenario. Teaching your child what to do in an emergency is extremely important. So make sure they are aware of the two important emergency numbers: 112 or 999. But it is also important that you explain to your child what actually counts as an emergency, as you don’t want them ringing these numbers for non-emergency related problems.

Manners
Explain to your child the importance of manners and most importantly, how they should treat others. It’s essential that your child is aware that their actions can have consequences and what may seem harmless to them, can be extremely hurtful to others.

Tie shoe laces
A lot harder than it looks. Some kids get the hang of this straight away, while for others it may take a little longer. Your child will probably want to wear their favourite pair of Velcro shoes for as long as they can, but they will have to learn how to tie their shoes eventually. If not only for their own safety, but for their hand-eye coordination as well.

It’s ok to say no
While your child might have no problem in saying no to you constantly, they could have a difficulty in using this word with others. Explain to your child if they ever feel uncomfortable in any scenario, it is perfectly ok for them to say no. It's important that your child learns this as early as possible.

Can’t always get what you want
There will come a time in your child’s life when they will soon realise that they won’t win every game, they won’t get that toy that they want and they definitely can’t have chocolate all the time. This lesson is probably the harshest, but usually something your child will come to terms with on their own. It does help sometimes if their parents can give them a little guidance about this lesson as well.
