Most women know to avoid sushi when there are pregnant, but did you know that as well as raw fish, raw meats can be dangerous to your unborn baby. Avoid eating rare steaks and hamburger. Make sure that all meat you consume is fully cooked.
When it comes to cooked fish, you should also limit your intake. There is a lot of debate about the dangers of mercury in fish. Some experts say it will not harm you and others believe it will. The standard recommendation for pregnant women is to eat no more than 12 ounces of cooked fish per week.
Always avoid drinking alcohol and limit your caffeine intake dramatically. It is also recommended to stay away from certain cheeses that may contain harmful bacteria. These include blue cheese, feta, and brie.
Additionally, many doctors advise pregnant women to avoid drinking tap water. In many cities, the water source is highly chlorinated and contains high levels of minerals. The jury is still out on whether these minerals can cause harm; however, it’s best to just avoid drinking tap water during your pregnancy.
