We’ve been lucky enough to witness a glorious British summer this year with plenty of beautiful sunny days and scorching heat throughout August. But, whether we like it or not the British summer is drawing to a close and autumn is fast approaching us. Mornings are getting darker and those winter woolly jumpers are slowly looking more appealing.

However, holidaying doesn’t need to stop at summer, so instead of letting those summer holiday blues kick in and before you start your winter hibernation process early, squeeze in a short break away in one of Britain’s most beautiful holiday destinations. The autumn months are a stunning time of year in the UK with a near-rainbow of colours visible on the trees, making it an idyllic setting for a perfect country getaway. Here’s just a few locations where you can witness the UK in all its autumn glory…

Norfolk and Suffolk

With over 5,000km of marked pathways, you will be spoilt for choice for where you can enjoy a scenic autumn stroll. Walk around Suffolk’s woodland areas or across the heaths on the coast, which will surely remove any post summer holiday blues. As well as its many walking routes, Suffolk is renowned for its charming beach which still has lots to offer throughout autumn. Walk along the beach, taking in the breath taking scenery and visit the pier whilst eating some of the best traditional British fish and chips.

Sailing on the Norfolk Broads are a great way to explore one of Britain’s famous national parks. Experience a whole host of wildlife, sharpen your sailing skills and jump off at some beautiful riverside pubs on your trip. If shopping is more your think, then head to Norwich, the city centre is blessed with two shopping malls, a market and lanes filled with independent shops and boutiques. In addition to a wealth of culture, history and dining there are some simply beautiful Norfolk cottages and Suffolk lets available.

Cornwall

If you’re a festival lover and feeling blue that festival season is over, Cornwall is a great place to visit this autumn with it offering music festivals including Looe Music festival. There will be over 60 bands playing on different stages in the idyllic location on the beach and around the harbour.

As well as music festivals, Cornwall hosts many food festivals throughout autumn where you can taste some delicious food and see local chefs in action as well as street food pop ups. Alternatively if you are looking for an active holiday, get involved in one of the walking festivals at Fal River, where you can walk though miles of natural beauty and visit historical points of interest.

If you’re not a festival lover, and looking for more of a relaxing break away, then Cornwall will not disappoint. Wander around the cobbled streets of St Ives and admire the old fisherman cottages. Visit the Tate gallery and appreciate a stunning collection of artwork related to Cornwall.

Windermere, Lake District

Visit some of Britain’s astonishing scenery and finest views by visiting the Lake District. With the autumn hues arriving, what better time of year to visit the 885 square miles of patchwork lakes, valleys and woodlands.

Windermere in the Lake District is the largest natural lake in England, stretching across 10 miles, becoming a huge tourist attraction ever since the arrival of the railway back in 1847. Take a leisurely bike ride or if you’re a walking lover, take a long day hike across the many hills with the incredible scenery surrounding you.

Be sure to visit Bowness-on-Windermere, which is half way down Windermere and close by to Windermere village and its railway station. Catch a boat trip where you will be taken around the lake and all of its different islands.

So instead of curling up on the sofa this weekend, make the most of what Britain has to offer in the autumn months and get packing for your next short break away.
