New figures show one in five babies in the UK are born to mums over 40.

The average age of mothers is also on the rise, moving from 26.4 in 1973 to 29.8 in 2012.

The figures come from the Office of National Statistics who say there are a number of reasons for the new trend, including an increase in the number of women going to university and prioritising a career, as well as the cost of raising a child.
