What happened to making the nativity costume?

Nativity costumes are selling for three times their original price on eBay as parents desperately try to kit their children out for their Christmas play.

As supermarkets sell out of the typical Mary, Joseph, shepherd and wise men costumes, parents have resorted to online bidding to ensure their child is appropriately dressed. According to eBay, both used and homemade angel outfits are selling for £32.00 while shepherd costumes are reaching up to £22.00.

Many parents have been blaming the school for waiting until the last minute to tell them which part their son or daughter has and when they go to the shops their kid’s size is gone. This has pushed up the selling price on eBay.

“This Christmas we’ve seen sales of nativity costumes shoot up as savvy parents have been flocking to the site en masse to get their children kitted out.”

Julie Froggatt wanted to make her son’s costume rather than buy it but she was given “just a few days” to make it after “the school left it until the week of the play to send a letter telling us which part our child had." However, Harriet Oliver had no intention of going the homemade route as her son was horrified at the thought of his mum “cobbling something together”.

It seems that some mums are sticking to the tradition of making the costume, Asda claim they have seen a 40% increase in the sales of single tea towels and its multi-buy five pack tea towels.
