Why it’s Never Too Late to Start Planning the Half-Term Break

Although it may seem that your little ones just started their new school year, but before you know it, half-term will be upon us. However daunting this may seem with the kids home all day for a whole week, I think you’ll agree when I say it’s better to be safe than sorry. Lining up some weather-friendly activities to keep your kids busy (whether the sun is shining or not) can be a smart move. And despite summer being over, there is still plenty to keep your little ones occupied this autumn.

Depending on your budget, you may be less willing to take your kids out every single day of the break. This can become absolutely exhausting as well! That being said, not going out every day shouldn’t limit your kids’ fun. There are several activities that you can organise from your own home. ‘Indoor fun’ can consist of board game sessions of varying sizes - depending on what your kids enjoy most. You can even set up a ‘championship’ of some sort, where your kids channel their competitive streaks. You could even introduce them to some of your old favourites, which may prove to be quite popular. Arts and crafts are also a great way to consume an entire day in the most creative of ways. From painting, to scrapbooking, to good old fashioned colouring-in books, it’s always a good idea to allow your kids to express themselves creatively. You can find some interesting ideas for your kids to try out here.

Getting your kids some fresh air is also very important, especially when trying to get them to bed in the evenings. A well-exercised child is a well-rested child in the long-run. Taking your little ones swimming or to the park, which can be a little difficult to muster up the motivation when the weather is not its best, is still an enjoyable activity for all. If you go kitted out your kids will make the best of it if you do. If the weather is really inconsolable, don’t forget about soft play centres. These are a relatively cheap way to keep your children amused all day, and also an opportunity for them to meet their friends, or make new ones.

If you had more of a family holiday in mind for the approaching break, then there are many staycation destinations cropping up all over the UK. For example, there are a range of luxury cottages in Norfolk to choose from, where you can enjoy a relaxing break while your kids enjoy the beautiful Norfolk countryside. Daytrips away are always an option too, London is of course a favourite place during the half-term season, but is rather expensive. Other attractions across the country include theme and adventure parks across the UK, as well as the many zoos and nature reserves which always have special offers during the half term periods.

So whether it’s an indoor day or a cosy rainy one, there’s no reason for your kids to get bored this half-term.
